Throwback Thursday - a Friendship Quilt

Linking up with Jen at A Quarter Inch From The Edge

In 2002 five ladies from the Dordogne ( four English and one Dutch) traveled to Rotterdam for a week of patchwork fun. Our Dutch friend had arranged for us to meet up with three of her patchwork friends and to stay with one of them.

We were all given a basket pattern and asked if we would like to exchange blocks to make a small friendship quilt each. This was a great idea and memento of our trip and so while we were browsing fabric shops we were looking for colour themes for our blocks.

I chose these fabrics for my quilt and gave each of the other lades a piece of the leafy fabric and asked them to make my block using those colours.

This is the centre block of the finished quilt.

Several months went by and then I had all the blocks and put them together to make this quilt.

I added the 'windmill' blocks in the corners as windmills and Holland go together and I used the outline of the car we traveled in as a quilted motif in the border.

Happy memories.

Oh yes - I bought my Dear Jane book on this trip!

Have a great weekend.
