One of those nothing weeks!

Not sure where it went but certainly not a lot happened. Even my pilates class was cancelled as several people were away or ill.

Definitely not a lot of sewing happening, in fact only my Stitch Journal has been worked on. Seems like I do need the Chookshed Challenge motivation to get me moving.

The weather has not really been conducive to getting out and about either.

I have mainly been working on my family album. I started it last year adding pictures of my parents wedding and all the cards etc that Mum had saved for 69 years. I think I have now finished adding pictures so it's just a matter of going through and labelling them all up.

My knitting needles have been busy in the evenings and progress has been made on my top - I think I am halfway up the body. Maybe something to show next week. Also I have been reading. I finished this book

the first in a series of five books about the Cazalet family. I am not usually one for family sagas but this was brilliant and I ordered the next two books as soon as I had finished it. The first book is set in the two years before the start of the second World War.

The first named storm of the season came through yesterday, storm Austen, with rain and strong winds although fortunately we didn't get the full force of the wind. It was however strong enough to cause this tree on the green outside our house to lose a large branch.

It is always the last tree out there to lose it's leaves so it is still full ofvery green leaves making it especially vulnerable to catching the wind. Just have to hope that the powers that be don't decide to take down the whole tree because it 'could' be dangerous. There is another storm passing over today, storm Boelo, but the strong winds are passing over the north of the country, down here it is just very wet. But we can not complain as we need the rain to fill our reservoirs.

So tonight we turn our clocks back an hour and move onto winter time. An extra hour in bed tomorrow morning and lighter mornings for a week or so. Dark earlier in the evening though.

Back next week. Happy stitiching.

  1. That doesn't read like nothing to me. You did plenty. Though maybe not the usual blog content with pretty pictures. LOL

  2. That's so cool that you will be setting your clocks back tonight. I thought only the US did that. We've still got a couple more weeks of "summer" time. Lol!

  3. It is scary when a big branch like that falls from a tree.
Hope your coming week gives you more creative opportunities. Maybe the extra sleep will help.

  4. Beautiful stitch journal as always Lin. That book looks most interesting. I do hope the storms pass over with not too much damage. xx

  5. Good to hear you're getting some rain and not too much damage.
Hope the tree can be saved.

  6. Sounds like a "full" week to me. Those storms can be very quick and damaging. I find it takes a couple of days to adjust once the clocks have been moved forward or backward.

  7. Hello Lin, I am always surprised at how motivating a group challenge is.... does help. Hope the rain is a decent amount, would be nice without wild storms. I have reserved that book from the library now, I do like trying different ones... but they don't have the others!

  8. Some weeks just need to be a bit slower for us. Your stitching journal is gorgeous, as usual. I love that you are still working on the family journal. Sounds like you have made some good progress. Glad to storm wasn't too terrible for you; though sad about the tree losing one of it's limbs. Hope you have a great week!

  9. Lovely work on your stitch journal. Nothing like finding a book series to dive into. I hate damaging storms...the gentle stuff is much preferable. Sounds like a big project doing your family album. Hope the weather settles for you soon xx

  10. Let’s hope you don’t get too many of those storms this winter. It sounds like it was a good week to hunker down.

  11. Hope you stayed safe with that storm raging.
I think a challenge does motivate us. I didn't join any this year but will next.

  12. Oh Lin, I do like the odd 'nothing' week as a way to refrsh and revive after busy seasons. Hope no more trees are affected.

  13. The body needs to adjust to the cold season—so it’s no wonder we feel the urge to shift down a gear.
Right now, I’m spending more time cooking and baking than doing sew projects...
November, with its gray, wet, and cold weather, is the month I like the least... fortunately, the wonderful month of December follows right after! :-)))
Pilates sounds like a great idea, as does the sewing challenge. I hope you really enjoy your knitting, and I also hope you’re spared from any severe storms.
I’m already looking forward to seeing your knitting project—your tunic. Enjoy.
    Much love, Viola
