It's a Flimsy!

Yes, finally my Hexathon Quilt is a flimsy with all four borders now added. Whew! And it is big! Must admit I had not realised quite how big. Anyway, due to the prevailing weather conditions - ie very cold, grey and damp, I have had difficulty in getting a decent photograph. So my apologies for this poorly lit, squashed up picture - I will post a decent one as soon as I can get outside.

There is some pressing to do too!

What had escaped my notice was that the bottom left corner would be completely bare!  I shall have to put on my thinking cap to come up with something to fill that space.

I have two spare large hexagons but I think one of them would be too big. On the other hand I think that it needs more than just another small hexagon.

In other news, I have completed one set of swap hexagons for December - yes, the December list for one group came out early!

I also have my November RSC tumbling blocks complete. There was no specific colour for November just the suggestion that we used something dark. So I chose brown as my brown box is quite full.

I am linking up with Anthea at Hibiscus Stitches for Piece Yourself Together. Thank you Anthea.

FNSI for November

Many thanks to Wendy for hosting our virtual sew-in. You can see what everyone was working on here on Wendy's blog.

I started the afternoon with the intention of adding the borders to my Hexathon quilt.

I had not squared the top up since adding the large plain section and this took a little while! At this point I was winging it a bit so decided to add the plain borders first which I did - just a small pic as it was raining outside and space indoor was at a premium!

At this point I realised that I had miscalculated on the ammount of bias strip that I needed for the coloured flange - by half! So that will have to be a job for another day. I was however able to use the off cuts of border fabric to extend the pieced borders and I have those joined now ready for my next session. Lunch guests tomorrow means that my large work table - ie the dining room table has to be cleared.

So not as much achieved as I had hoped but at least the task has been started and I now know where I am going.

Friday evening called for some relaxing hand sewing so I made this Christmas flower for one of my swap groups.

Now I am looking forward to seeing what everyone got up to. Have a great weekend.

EPP Tuesday - and I nearly forgot!!

Many thanks to Anthea for hosting our link up again today - pop over to her blog to see who else is linking up.
So what have I to show you? Well first of all I have completed my DMTV Summer Stitchalong book cover.

I added some embroidery and beads.

And the finished book cover looks like this.

I
Having completed the border blocks for my Hexathon quilt I laid them out to work on the correct order. And this is what I have come up with.

So now I need to make some plain blocks to add in to the 'grassy' spaces.

Some lovely flowers have arrived from my swap partners.

I must have shown you the ones I sent last time. I have some ready to send this month but the recipient lives in Florida so I am holding them back for the moment.

Sad that there are so many people in the world whose homes are lost for one reason or another - floods, hurricanes and the Rohingya people forced to leave their country for ethnic reasons. So much sadness.

I hope that all is well with you and yours.

Piecing Myself Together!

Many thanks to Anthea for hosting our linky again - great to have you back. Pop over to Anthea's blog to see how her lovely scrappy quilt is coming along and to check out the other link ups.

First of all I have my swap hexies for August - again these are all winging their way to Australia. Well they will be soon - went to the PO this morning and for some reason it was closed so will have to try later in the week. Anyway, here they are.

I love that black, white and aqua combo! The aqua is a little darker in real life.

I have not had much time to work on my Hexathon quilt but I have added a few border blocks to my collection.

I have been a bit distracted by the DMTV stitchalong which now looks like this.

I have just added some quilting around the printed hexies for now but need to add a different stitch before the next part comes out on Thursday. Regular readers of my blog will have read all about this piece in my last blog post but if you are visiting for EPP Tuesday then you might like to go back to that post here to find out what it is all about.

Well that's it from me for today. Hope you are having a good week and lots of time to sew.

It's 'Piece Yourself Together' time again

Many thanks to Anthea for organising the link - do go and see what everyone is making and link up yourself if you are working on some EPP. The link up is here

First up are my swap hexies for the month which are all winging their way to Australia this month.

And just look what arrived in the post for me yesterday!

Not only my swap hexies for this month but the most darling little key fob made from 1/4" hexies! Real live ones, in the flesh! They are so tiny, I just can't imagine how anyone can make them that small.

No actual EPP going on here other than that but I have received more supplies of grey fabric for my Hexathon quilt. So I have now pinned the pieced panel on to it ready to stitch down, and  I have cut away the excess fabric from the back. This means that I have freed up some fabric to use in the piecing of the borders. The papers are all cut from freezer paper so now I just need to get busy with the iron.

Lots more going on here but I shall leave that for another post.

I am also linking up with Heather's Needlework Tuesday here

Have a great week.

EPP Tuesday

It was EPP Tuesday yesterday and I am a bit late linking up - sorry Anthea! You can see what Anthea and everyone else have done here.

I have been working hard on my Hexathon quilt and now have the main body complete - apart from adding the top right corner of course!

I am pleased with how it is looking. I have made a start on the border but decided it was time to put it away again for a while.

Appropriately I received a swap flower in the post yesterday - another to add to my turquoise and terracotta collection.

These are the flowers that I sent out for June.

I am also linking up with Heather at Books and Quilts for Needlework Tuesday - again, sorry I am late Heather.

Don't forget that this week is FNSI - sign ups are here and I hope to see you there.

Piecing myself together again!

I thought it was time to get my Hexathon quilt out again and have made good progress over the last couple of evenings.

All the Hexathon blocks are in place now so I need to add the rest of the plain hexagons to the middle and the half hexagons around the left and bottom edges to straighten everything up. The top right hand corner of the quilt will be plain.

In the post today were my Inchy Hexagon Swap hexies for the month which was very appropriate.

I am very pleased with my growing collection of turquoise and terracotta flowers.

I am linking up with Anthea at Hibiscus Stitches - if you are working on some EPP then why not show us all by linking up as well. It's easy!

It's been a lovely afternoon here and we are promised good weather for the rest of the week so we are off to the seaside tomorrow for the day!

I hope your week is going well.

Hexathon catch up

It's the second Tuesday of the month so it is time to link up with Anthea at Hibiscus Stitches for all things EPP. Do pop over to see what everyone has been doing - Anthea has a great giveaway too!

I have made progress with putting together my Hexathon quilt and it now looks like this.

I am putting it aside for a while now as I concentrate on some other projects but more about them next time.

EPP Tuesday and more catching up!

It's the fourth Tuesday in the month and so it is time to link up with Anthea at Hibiscus Stitches with all things EPP.

There is not much to report on the EPP front though - just that as well as these

I have altogether 47 diamonds and 26 hexagons basted and ready to add to my Hexathon hexies. They are my project this year for our month in Spain - and we leave tomorrow, so am now very excited!

Just a couple of things to quickly show you - this lovely Christmas postcard arrived for me from Sheila  of Sheila's Quilt World.

Isn't he jolly! Thank you very much Sheila and I am sorry it has taken me so long to post about him.

Lastly, a last minute project before our trip has been this Noodlehead open wide zippered pouch.

I had saved all the scraps from the Shibori bag that I made last year and already had the zip so it made up very quickly. Follow the link for Anna's excellent tutorial in three sizes - mine is the largest as I wanted to store all my art materieals together to take away.

By pieceing the lining I had just enough fabric! The base of the bag is 4.5" x 8" and it stands 8" high - looks enormous in my picture but thats the angle I was taking the picture from.

I hope to be posting some pictures of sunny Spain in the next few weeks but they have had a very poor winter and there was even snow on Alicante beach last week.

Have a great February.

EPP Tuesday update

Linking up with Anthea at Hibiscus Stitches again for EPP Tuesday. Many thanks Anthea for organising this linkup all year. You can see what everyone has been working on here

Just a couple of things to show you. I could not resist making one of these little trees that Anthea was working on last time.

It is made from 1/2" hexies and I gave it a blue side and a red/green side so it could be swapped round to suit ones mood! It's already been gifted.

I have also made a start on putting together my hexathon hexies.

We are now in UK for our Christmas break - the sun was actually shining this morning!
