Rainbow Scrap Challenge April and a finish

 It's almost the end of April and a new RSC colour is just around the corner so I ought to show you my yellows.

First up my log cabins for the month including Jennifer's Joy in the Ordinary block.

My Stitch Journal page for the month is almost complete and I am looking forward to tidying away my tangle of yellow threads and playing with something different.

I finished quilting my RSC heart quilt from 2023 a couple of weeks ago. I kept hanging on for a dry and wind free day to get some out door photographs but in the end had to give up and take them indoors as last weekend I took the quilt to our Regional Day and passed it on to our local Linus co-ordinator. So here it is.

Very happy with how this turned out and I see more hearts in my future - larger ones with flowers tumbling from the centre would be nice I think.

FNSI February

My first sewing for the day, as always at the moment, was my Stitch Journal. The red page is slowly filling, well actually the month seems to be whizzing past and the page is filling quite quickly!

Yesterdays pebble was the stacked herringbone cross, lower middle. Such a versatile stitch herringbone. And while I am on a red theme here and as I will be linking with Angela for her RSC update here are my log cabins for the month with Jennifer's lovely embroidery (slightly altered to suit me) in the middle of one of them.

These were finished earlier in the week.

But back to Friday. I finally had a trip to a LQS, tucked away on a farm up in the Quantock hills and managed to spend a small fortune but came away with lots of goodies! One of which was binding fabric for my Red Manor House quilt. I machined the binding onto the quilt earlier in the week and have been spending some time each evening hemming it down. So that was my next Friday job. It's a long way around that quilt! I got quite a bit done yesterday but still more to do. Here is work in progress - I think about a quarter left.

Another purchase was the backing fabric for Wings and Pretty Things which has also been waiting quite a while for this next stage. I layered this up at my patchwork group on Tuesday afternoon.

As soon as I have finished hemming RMH I will start hand quilting this. Am so looking forward to quilting again!

Also while I had a large table to work on I layered up last years RSC top.

Those creases are from folding since I layered up - it was ironed before!! This one is for machine quilting and probably Linus so no hurry at the moment.

I think that is all my news for now so I will leave you with the first daffodils in our garden - later than most peoples, I think because they are in a part of the garden that gets no sun. Have a lovely week.

Yes, my flimsy is finished!

All my hearts are in for the year. I may add a narrow border - possibly turning the backing to the front after quilting. I have enjoyed making these hearts and can see more in the future, in the meantime though I am starting to think 2024!

FNSI October

 Had the house to myself for the afternoon so was able to get my machine out and crack on with a couple of projects. First up, this

became this

Just need to look out a button. Having everything cut out and ready to go made this a quick project. Would have been even quicker but I decided to quilt my bag to give it more stability. This is going to be a little gift bag.

Next up my RSC project. I crossed my fingers and ordered some fabric online to make setting squares for my hearts. Very happy with the fabric that arrived and I started sewing the blocks together after I had finished the bag.

Much happier with how this is looking now. All the bits are cut so next time I get the machine out I should get this all together very quickly.

Thought I would crack on with my knitting while the rugby was on in the evening - sock no 2 is on the home run

but I soon got bored with the rugby and my book was calling so that was it for me.

September catch up

 I thought I would keep back all my sewing and crochet progress to make a separate post from our Cornish travels.

First up some completed Field Journal hexagons and the latest embroidered one.

My RSC hearts for September

I am going to have to lay them all out again to see what colour I need for October because light neutrals does not excite me!

The crochet blanket has come on a lot quicker than I thought it would - that's because I couldn't face all that satin stitch on the FJ panel in the evenings!

However, it has now been put away for a bit as some balls of sock wool arrived this week from West Yorkshire Spinners so now I am knitting socks. The first pair I am knitting uses this lovely Green Woodpecker colourway.

Very appropriate for a birder I thought.

FNSI August

Not much time to sew and so I thought I had better crack on with my swap hexies for the month and here they are

Good to get them done and they will be in the post on Monday.

We have had a busy couple of weeks and so there has not been much happening on the sewing front. I did get my RSC hearts appliqued down last week

Then I couldn't resist getting out all my hearts to see how they looked. Well!

My first regret was setting them on point and my second was using those dark backgrounds for the blue! Oh well.

I have got some pretty floral fabric that I might use as plain blocks between the hearts and for the edging triangles and regig the colours so that the darker backgrounds are at the bottom. On the other hand I could just remake the blue blocks! Two more months to go though before I make a decision.

Another busy week coming up and I should have some travel pics for you next week.

Friday Night with Friends for August....

 ....was a bit of a washout sewing wise. All I managed to do in the evening was to sew these two hearts together having basted the pieces the night before.

They need a good press now so that I can get them appliqued down.

But, we had a lovely day out meeting up with friends for lunch. We picked a spot roughly midway between us as we live about a 3 hour drive from each other. The place we chose to meet up was Cerne Abbas a pretty Dorset village with lots of lovely old architecture. Sadly I didn't get any pictures -  we were far too busy talking! We stopped for coffee and then moved on to the Royal Oak for lunch.

After lunch we drove out to a viewing point to see what Cerne Abbas is famous for - the Cerne Giant a chalk hill figure. Click on the link for a decent photograph! Mine are not very clear. I understand that the chalk trenches are redone every 7 years and it looks like they are due refurbishment!

The traffic on the roads on our way to Cerne Abbas was horrendous - holiday traffic heading to and from Devon and Cornwall, so we took a more scenic route home. Ironically the only traffic hold up we had was about 3 minutes from home - a notoriously busy junction.

We hadn't been home long when friends called in and we had impromptu drinks. So by the time I got sat down in the evening to sew time was running out and I was feeling quite tired. However, a fun day and I would not have changed it.

FNSI July

 Good to join in with Wendy and friends especially as I was away for FNWF's last week - see my last post for a tour of North Devon.

I spent an hour during the afternoon prepping some Field Journal backings ready to sew in the evening. Also drew up a few more little designs ready to sew.

Spent a very happy couple of hours during the evening with needle and thread while we listened to The First Night of the Proms. Such a great selection of music.

Hopefully I will get the other two finished this afternoon while we watch Somerset play at the T20 finals day.

Also this week I have completed my RSC blocks - light blue with a hint of teal as I did red last month.

That rug is not the best to use as a background I see lol.

Friday Night with Friends, June

 June already and summer is here. Well at least it feels like summer as the sun has been shining and it has been several weeks since we had any rain.

I spent an hour in the afternoon working on my Boro panel which I have started embroidering onto. I finished adding the twigs to my tree and started adding in some blossom.

There will be leaves added and possibly more twigs as I go along. The plan is to fill the rest of the panel with lots of flowers but I can see that I could be some time working on this tree!

Earlier in the week I needed something simple to work on during a zoom chat and wanted to start on my RSC hearts. However, Angela's suggestion of dark and bright blues I have already made this year so I decided to go for red. In the end she suggested adding in some green for teal but I will do that when the red month comes along! Anyway Friday evening saw me watching T20 cricket - Somerset are doing brilliantly so far this year - and sewing down the second heart. So here they both are.

Nice to have these done early on in the month and I can press on with a few other projects - I may just have been led down the garden path to another new project!! More next time.

I had made a start on my RSC hearts on Thursday so it was nice to get them finished for FNWF's.

Now that Red Manor House is finished I am looking forward to getting on with some other projects so today - after lunch at the coast -  I am getting out one of the Field Journal blocks for some peaceful embroidery.
