Piece Yourself Together time

I have had this post written for a couple of weeks having got my dates and Tuesdays all mixed up!

As always, many thanks to Anthea for hosting this linky. Pop over to  Anthea's  blog to see  her almost completed, beautiful table runner and to find out what everyone else has been doing.

I am pleased to say that I actually have something positive to share with you all today!

I was looking for a small hand sewing project to work on over Easter and remembered these hexies that I had sewn together in Spain with the vague idea of making a project folder with them.

I also remembered a piece of Jenny of Elefantz embroidery that I worked a couple of years ago which has been sitting around waiting for a project.
And so I put them together and I now have the outside of my project folder!

Now I need to think about how I am going to finish off the inside - how many pockets I want etc. Hopefully it will not be too long until I can show you the finished folder.

While we were in England we visited Arlington Court in North Devon and I spotted this coverlet in one of the bedrooms.

It was made in the early 19th century and the hexagons are 3/4". Sadly, as you will see from the close up, many of the fabrics have started to disintegrate.

I should imagine that many of the fabrics have faded too. However, it was lovely to see it out on the bed as it had spent many years in a drawer before it was discovered.

I am also linking up with Super Mom No Cape and her
Vintage Embroidery Link

 Happy piecing!

  1. Your project folder is going to be beautiful! How clever of you to combine your sweet embroidery work with your hexies.

  2. Great way to use your hexies and stitchery.
What a great old quilt, better to have it out so people can see than let it be hidden away even if it is showing signs of age.

  3. I love how you have used the hexagons and stitchery..... so good to see the coverlet too - even damaged - it's lucky it wasn't just thrown out...

  4. Pretty folder, Lin:-)
Thanks for showing the old quilt; it just made me think - all the quilts we are making will fall apart one day..........

  5. One can never do to many hexagons, they are so much fun to do. Yours are such a beautiful color and a great idea to combine with stitchery. I also like Jenny's embroidery design.

Thank you for sharing that coverlet, very interesting, just shows that you don't have to quilt everything. Or was it quilted, I could not see. XX

  6. The folder cover is beautiful Lin. I love the old patchwork quilt. I have a quilt top that was late 1800's that I made into a cover for our bed but that has started to disintegrate now, I'm not sure what to do with it now, whether to take it apart and create something smaller with the good bits, it seems a shame to just hide it away!

  7. I like what you are doing for your project folder. A nice way to use up some small pieces.

The quilt my grandmother made me has several worn pieces and the acrylic batting has almost disappeared. I am working up the courage to take the backing off, replace the holey pieces and add new batting and re-quilt. Once I start, I'll have no choice but to continue, though it still functions that way it is. I'll get brave one of these days.

Thanks for linking up with Needlework Tuesday.

  11. It is sad that it is falling apart, but I'm glad it's getting viewed before that happens! Just think of all the hard work that went into it. I can imagine all sorts of things about the maker of this beautiful piece.
