FNSI November - part one!

Many thanks to Wendy for inviting us round not just once this month but twice!

We have had beautiful weather here all week and Friday was no exception so after adding the final borders to this Gardeners Journal panel (which has been waiting for it's borders for some months) I headed outside to do some more work in the garden.

So then my task for the evening was to add some quilting which I did with a lovely yellow/pale green variegated perle thread.

Then for the last hour of my evening I got out some crochet. I started knitting a pair of socks with this lovely yarn last year but was not happy with the pattern. Now I NEED a cowl so have undone my knitting and started crocheting my cowl. Not sure how big it will turn out but I am sure there will be enough there. It's lovely, simple, rhythmic ripple crochet - perfect for relaxing with at the end of the day.

Friday Night Sew In

It was great to join in with everyone for our FNSI for June. Thank you very much Wendy for hosting us - you can see everyone's work for the evening here

My first task was to quilt this Gardeners Journal panel. It was all machined together and the binding handstitched down so it was just the simple! task of choosing a thread and then quilting round.

 

I am pleased with the effect of the variegated perle thread that I chose and the panel was soon finished.

 

I have had a small square of hand dyed slubby silk on my desk for a while waiting to be embroidered for another tissue case. I decided to try out one of the designs in this pack of transfers that I was recently gifted - thank you Sue.

 

 

The pattern transferred really well. There is a fine, pencil like line which is easily hidden by the stitching so there is no need to wash it out.

By the end of the evening stitching was well underway.

I am keeping the stitching fairly traditional - just the centres to fill in now.

Hope you are having a good weekend - we are off to the airport later today to collect family who are here for a week. Not sure what they will make of the weather - it's a coolish 19 here today but promises to hit 30 by Wednesday! C'est la vie!

FNSI May

Yesterday was Friday Night Sew In - many thanks to Wendy for hosting us. You can see what everyone got up to here

A few weeks ago I came across Jennifer Clouston's Boro Inspired Sewing Caddy and I immediately thought of my solar dyed fabrics from a couple of years ago.

I pulled out my box of fabrics and had lots of fun choosing the fabrics for the outside of the caddy, working the little embroideries and then 'boroing' it all together. Sorry - no work in progress pics! On Friday afternoon I was able to sew the drawstring bag into position and add the ribbons. So here it is.

The yellow side - fabrics dyed with rosemary, walnut husks and onion skins.

The blue side - fabrics dyed with black bean soaking water, morning glory flowers and elderberries.

The inside

I still need to find a suitable cord to cover and then attach around the outer edge of the bag - it also makes the loop for a button closure. So far everything was from stash but I think I am going to have to go out and buy some suitable cord. I love this little bag and - it goes beautifully with the log cabin pincushion I made last year which sits very neatly inside the drawstring bag.

I have also recently acquired a copy of Anni Downs 'A Gardeners Journal' and have been looking forward to starting on one of the embroideries. I am not planning on making the quilt but the designs will make super minis for gifts - and me! I decided to start with the Dovecote and here is how much progress I made yesterday.

The sun has been shining here for the last few days which has made a pleasant change - last weekend was awful! So I am off outside with my embroidery - hope you have a great weekend.
