It's a Flimsy!

Yes, finally my Hexathon Quilt is a flimsy with all four borders now added. Whew! And it is big! Must admit I had not realised quite how big. Anyway, due to the prevailing weather conditions - ie very cold, grey and damp, I have had difficulty in getting a decent photograph. So my apologies for this poorly lit, squashed up picture - I will post a decent one as soon as I can get outside.

There is some pressing to do too!

What had escaped my notice was that the bottom left corner would be completely bare!  I shall have to put on my thinking cap to come up with something to fill that space.

I have two spare large hexagons but I think one of them would be too big. On the other hand I think that it needs more than just another small hexagon.

In other news, I have completed one set of swap hexagons for December - yes, the December list for one group came out early!

I also have my November RSC tumbling blocks complete. There was no specific colour for November just the suggestion that we used something dark. So I chose brown as my brown box is quite full.

EPP Tuesday

I have been working on my Hexathon and the two pieced borders are almost complete.

 

Not easy to photograph - I had to wait for the grass to dry by which time the sun was in the wrong direction! I need to finish the ends off with some plain hexagons and then think about attaching them to rest of the top.

As you will have seen from my last post here I have completed my RSC project and started a new one by cutting out some diamonds to make tumbling blocks. My pink tumblers are now complete and have been put away awaiting my next colour.

No idea yet how I will be putting them together or what I shall make, but there is plenty of time for that!

Beautiful weather here at the moment with cold nights and bright sunny days. The cranes have finally started to fly south - a sure sign of cold weather further north. Here are some that were thermalling (spiralling to gain height) above our house yesterday.

Toussaint here today so a public holiday (Nov 1st) - the roads are quiet and the two building sites nearby are also silent. Beautiful. Enjoy your day.

FNWF and RSC

I am also linking up with Angela for ScrapHappySaturday  as my first job yesterday was to finish hemming down the binding on my first completed Rainbow Scrap Challenge project! I have completed six blocks using six of Angela's suggested colours and have put them together to make this table runner.

I have to say that I am very pleased with the way it has turned out.

So then my next job was to make a start on my next RSC project. The colour for October is pink and I am going to make tumbling blocks using 1" diamonds. I managed to cut a few out ready to baste.

Not a hugely productive FNWF but then it was a beautiful afternoon and we were busy in the garden.

Friday Night with Friends

Very hot here again after last weeks rain so I was able to start sewing in the afternoon whilst 'hiding' indoors!

First up for me were my swap hexies for July which hopefully are now on their way to Australia. No pics I am afraid - I am saving them for EPP Tuesday!

Having got those all packaged up and stamped my next job was my RSC blocks for July. Thank goodness this month was blue! I have masses of blue. So here are the blocks I made.

I am so pleased with how all these blocks are looking - maybe next month I will lay them out together.

By this time it was the evening and so I got on with some secret stitching! So no pics. Sorry that there is such a dearth of pictures in this post!

Partying with Chookyblue in the Chookshed!

A wet Saturday meant that I had more time than usual to enjoy myself! And a nicely watered garden into the bargain although France is still on alert for a drought and hot summer. To catch up on all the fun in the Chookshed go here.

Here is what I was doing yesterday afternoon - my RSC blocks for June. Yellow. Yellow!!!! I went to what I though was my yellow/orange fabric box and what did I find - orange! Went through my scrap box too and all I could come up with that was a true yellow was this.

So in the end I went with some dull mustards which I think will work well with the other blocks that I have made.

My other mission was to make my swap hexie flowers for the month and these also got finished so I am well ahead on all my projects for the month.

I have also been working on my hexathon quilt and my CTTY project so have had a very profitable weekend. Hope yours was too.

FNSI and RSC for May

I had a very productive afternoon and evening! First up I finished off my Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks. May is a green month!

Next up was to get my friend Jacquelines quilt layered up for quilting. You can see my first post about this quilt here. Since that photo was taken I have added the final border and pieced together the leftover fabrics to make the backing. Here it is, all pinned and ready to quilt.

And as promised, close ups of some of the blocks. This is her first quilt and she has done really well.

The fabrics are gorgeous - I especially love the one with the feathers.

It was nice to finish the evening with some hand sewing - secret stuff so only a glimpse!

RSC catch up

Having been away for the month of February my first priority was to make my RSC  February blocks. The colour for the month was Aquamarine and surprisingly I had very little of this colour in my stash. So there will be no extra make in this colour. Here are my blocks.

The colour for March however is red and I have plenty of that. Here are my red blocks.

On my to do list for next week is a scrappy red sewing machine mat.

This week I have also been working on my Hexathon quilt and playing around in my sketchbooks.

It has been good to have a few days of sunshine and to be able to get out in the garden. There is plenty of spring colour around making it a pleasure to be out there.

FNSI and the Rainbow Scrap Challenge

I was not terribly productive - I cut out these diamonds for my Hexathon quilt and got them all basted, then got interested in a film and the knitting I had intended to get on with stayed in it's bag!

I have been following a few bloggers who do the Rainbow Scrap Challenge and I thought that this year it would be a good idea for me, a way to clear away a few scraps.
So I am joining up with Angela at soscrappy for ScrapHappy Saturday.

I have decided to use two related block designs - the Friendship Star

and Star on Star

Which, put together, look like this

although I have not joined them yet as I want to play around with the layout a bit. Having read this sad story by Chantal, I now have two of those blocks soaking in Metapex as there was a trace of purple on the kitchen paper when I tested one of the fabrics. I must remember to test all my old fabrics before I use them!

Maybe I should have made more blocks as this has hardly made a dimple in my stash and so following the lead of Fiona I decided to make a storage basket for my desk. I replaced this ugly thing that holds my small rulers and other useful items

I pieced together some scraps of batting and used some fairly stiff fabric (that I don't like very much) for the lining. I found a short length of purplish binding in my box of binding scraps and there we are, a truly scrappy basket. I need one more basket for my desk which I shall do another month and I could do with a new mat to stand my sewing machine on too which could be made by the same method.
