EPP Tuesday update

Many thanks to Anthea for hosting us again - do pop over to Hibiscus Stitches to see what everyone has been up to and to admire the beautiful centre panels that Anthea has put together.

I have three Morris Hexathon blocks to share with you this week.

#19 Woodford Green

#20 Walthamstow

#21 Queen Square

Only five more blocks to go!!

We went to a vide grenier on Sunday morning and I managed to pick up some bargains and some curiosities.

First of all the bargains included a box of delicious beads, four embroidery hoops and this delightful pewter pincushion.

I am going to replace the pincushion bit as they use a nasty rubbery stuff for the insert. He will look lovely with a new puffy velvet back.

Next the curiosities. This 2.5" leather pouch caught my eye as I love the squirrel design.

Inside, this is what I found - a stocking repair kit!

There are four different shades of thread and a pack of three needles. One of the needles has been used as there is a little piece of thread in the eye but they are all now rusty.

Abel Morrall stopped making needles in 1984 when the company was taken over, however these are definitely from a much earlier time.

This little packet intrigued me.

These little match like things are used to stop runs in stockings!

Fortunately the instructions are on the reverse.

There are five tiny emery boards tucked in behind the Stopit sticks.

I spotted this little sewing bag on the same stall.

Embroidered mainly with wools on a linen background with a silk lining it is not the prettiest item I have ever bought but someone spent a lot of time putting this together and I couldn't allow it to languish unloved on the stall any longer.

Autumn is around the corner - the mornings are much cooler now but we are still having hot days and there has been no more rain.

I hope you have a productive week.

It's EPP Tuesday again!

And thank you very much to Anthea for organising us.

Do pop over to Anthea's blog here to see the lovely hexagon project she is working on and to see what everyone else is up to.

I have two more Morris Hexathon blocks to show you -
#14 Canterbury which was incomplete when I last showed you

and #15 Kelmscott Tile which was last weeks block

This weeks block is simpler but has not yet been completely basted so I will wait until next time to show you.

Also, I now have a selection of yellow hexies basted ready to start putting together my blue flowers - when a spare moment comes around!

Have a great week.

EPP Tuesday!

Having been without a computer for several days last week, this week we have been without an internet connection off and on. So I am hoping to get this post written before it disappears again!

So here I am hopefully linking up with Anthea at Hibiscus Stitches as we Piece Ourselves Together. Thank you Anthea.

First an update on my hexie table topper which is now complete

and residing on top of my freshly painted chest of drawers.

In her last EPP post Anthea mentioned a new stitch along that was being organised by Barbara Brackman. Out of curiosity I visited Barbara's blog Material Culture
and read about the Morris Hexathon. Well of course, one look and I was hooked! Now as you know this is my Year of the UFO with no new large projects LOL. Well, I lasted 5 months and here I am with a new large project.
Anyway, back to the Hexathon. For 26 weeks Barbara is going to release the pattern for a large hexagon a week each linking in some way to William Morris. The finished hexagons are 8 1/2" across with 4" sides. On her blog Barbara is showing the hexagons being made with beautiful William Morris inspired fabric. Now I would love to have bought some of this fabric but my stash was saying noooo! Then I remembered this lovely collection of Kona solids which I won a couple of years ago and have been saving for a special project.

Perfect.

So this was my first hexagon called Westminster Star.

Well that was easy I thought - I wonder if I could make a smaller version using 1" diamonds? So I did.

So of course now that is waht I am doing with them all. The other blocks so far are Crystal Palace

andCamelot.

Right, I am posting this before our connection goes again!
