Many thanks to Cheryll for organising our Friday again - you can see who else took part here.
I spent Friday visiting Festival of Quilts at the NEC in Birmingham, a 3 1/4 hour coach trip which meant I spent more time on the coach than at the show, but it was worth it!
I have lots of photographs to share but will do that in a separate post.
On the way there, once on the motorway, I was able to get on with some knitting and did most of what you see here. Too tired to knit on the way back - I read instead.
The first sock was finished earlier in the week.
No Stitch Journal on Friday, I had to catch up on Saturday - here is my last week.
And the whole of July
This months Chookshed Challenge number is #7 which for me is to make a cover for this little sketchbook.
You can read about how I made this book back in 2017 here. Since then I have been working, on and off, into the pages with a mostly butterfly and middle eastern theme.
I plan to take some of the shapes and patterns from the pages and use them on the cover - but need to get my thinking cap on!
Finally some purchases from FOQ starting with some blue fabrics to use with the yellow hexies I worked on for the Chookshed Challenge back in January.
A Sue Hawkins kit - my thread cutter is always getting lost so hopefully this will help me keep track of it.
I've been watching tours of the Festival of Quilts on Youtube. It looks like such an enjoyable show and the vendors look so interesting. That was a long way to travel, I'm glad you had your socks to work on. I would have probably napped on the way home. Enjoy working on the little stitchery fob for your cutters, happy stitching!
ReplyDeleteI have been seeing lots of posts on here & on YouTube about the festival of quilts Lin. How wonderful that you could attend. Your purchases are all beautiful & would have had to come home with me too. Loving your stitch journal pages for July - very full, but then its full on summer there I keep forgetting. xx
ReplyDeleteYou have a few good crafts going on. I do love the thread cutter holder
ReplyDeleteYour latest socks are so nice and cheery. The FOQ must be so wonderful to visit. At least you didn’t have to drive there. You did come home with a nice little collection of goodies. You must be getting quite a collection of notebooks and journals. Have fun making the cover.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely to go to the Birmingham show... I believe it is huge. Lots of lovely fabric and stitching to see and bring home with you....
ReplyDeleteHugz
I too have lots of Festival of Quilts YouTube segments pop up on my phone. It looks like a fabulous show. Such a long time to travel but as you say well worth it. Lots of pretties called out your name, Lin. =) Those blue fabrics are pretty. I look forward to seeing your post about FOQ. I love the colours in your sock wool. Such pretty variegated colours.
ReplyDeleteI imagine the show was wonderful...sounds like you needed to stay overnight to take advantage of it....7 hours on a bus ...a long day.
ReplyDeleteWonderful purchases from the show Lin. That is a long trip on the bus!! Great sock colours.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely collection of threads! I am absolutely positive you are going to have lots of fun with those and there will be some beautiful works to show for them. The yarn you're using is so summery, happy! You got quite a bit done on the ride to the show and it's certainly understandable that you were too tired to knit mor on the way home. If i were read after the show, I'd for sure have fallen asleep! Probably miss my stop! Lol! Looking forward to the show pictures.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful additions to your stitch journal. You made some nice purchases at the quilt festival. I look forward to learning more about your trip.
ReplyDeleteLike your new header.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you'll come up with a great design for the cover of your journal.
You've been doing some lovely stitching.
Some nice purchases at the show.
Lovely to see your stitching and that bright and happy sock. It looks like you had fun with the retail therapy. I'm looking forward to the festival photos. I do miss it. One of the ladies from our local club was there too, her first time. I tried to prepare her.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh, yes. Travelling to the show and back in the day is a pretty exhausting experience, but worth it for the interesting things one does and sees!
