Persian Tiles - a finish!

I have been busily crocheting away every evening this week and finally finished my blanket on Friday. I have to say I am really pleased with it!

And I was happy that yesterday was a nice, dry sunny day and perfect for taking photographs.

The last block of My Vintage Kitchen came from Jenny of Elefantz on Friday so I now have that sewn up.

I need to get the borders machined around my last two blocks then my mini quilt is ready to assemble. Meanwhile I have gone back to basting hexies for 1797 while watching TV.

I have had a little box of water colours for many years now and a selection of 'how to' books picked up from charity shops but which never seem to quite show me how best to use my paints. However, last week a new video from Design Matters TV did exactly what I wanted. I downloaded the design they used and followed along with Linda and hey presto I seem to have a vaguely respectable watercolour of some rudbekia.

Just the scary bit of adding the background now! Next up I plan to have a go at some winter iris that I have a photograph of!

Well, the clocks changed here last night, so for a few weeks I shall be back to getting up in daylight again until winter creeps in.

I'm off to the cinema this afternoon to see Downton Abbey - can't wait!

  1. Your crochet blanket is beautiful, Lin. I love the colours you used. Gosh, I find it hard to believe you are not proficient at water colour painting. Your rudbekia looks fabulous. I have seen the Downton Abbey movie; I thoroughly enjoyed it. Enjoy!

  3. Fabulous! No, I mean FAAAAABBBBULOUS! What a beauty your Persian Tiles blanket is! Congratulations on this fantastic finish. Oh My. I can't get over it. I love it. I am just as impressed with the water color flowers. To me, it is perfect just the way it is. I wouldn't add a background, but that's just me. You did an excellent job for a first try. ;^)

  4. Well done with that blanket!
And also the watercolour - not bad at all. Take the background carefully, or just don't add one if your nerve fails! (I've done both in my time!)

  5. Your blanket is wonderful Lin! And your painting looks terrific! I wouldn’t add a background ..... I’d be terrified of spoiling it!
We saw Downtown recently! I don’t like cinema’s normally but the one we went to had double settees, side tables, and food and drink service (before the film starts, thankfully). But boy did we have to sit through some adverts ..... 30 minutes!!!! Too much!

  9. Lin, your Persian Tiles blanket is amazing! A lot of work and well worth it.
Your embroidery stitching is your usual beautiful work.
Well done with your watercolor painting. It looks like I should look into the instructions you found. I love water colors but have no clue to real painting with them.

  10. Mmm, this is such a satisfying post. I thought your crocheted blanket was a quilt until I started reading. Gorgeous! The watercolor is so pretty—even without the background. I’m looking forward to seeing more of your painting.

  13. Your crochet work is just beautiful. I embroidered Jenny's Vintage Kitchen blocks when she first shared them a few years back and have not completed my mini quilt. I will have to get to finishing it. I have a needle case you made for me, using one of Jenny's embroidery designs, when we participated in a swap. I use it every evening when I sit down to embroider. Your work is so beautiful.

  14. Wow! Your blanket is amazing! I am in awe! My mother was wonderful at crochet and knitting but I was not a good learner when young. It is simply gorgeous. Love your watercolour flower. Can't wait to see more of what you do.
