My last post for this years Perfectly Pleasing Pincushion Parade.
Thank you very much Ida for organising this event again and for getting together such a great list of prizes. You can see all the entries on Ida's blog here
I have seen some biscornu pincushions in the parade and as I have not made one before I thought I would have a go. Whilst wondering what to use for the top of the pincushion I remembered a box of HST blocks left over from the flying geese quilt that I made a few years ago.
Pressed and trimmed these measure 1 3/4". One day I will use them I am sure!! Anyway I selected nine different ones fully intending to take photographs along the way but of course I got carried away with the process and the next picture I took was this.
I used this tutorial for putting the pincushion together which worked like a dream. However, next time I will use my usual method of having a seam in the base to use for filling as it makes for a neater finish on the edge.
I wanted a nice bright button for the centre but in amongst my hundreds of buttons I couldnt find anything suitable! So ended up with this green button on top of a clear one which I think works well.
I am definitely going to make another of these. It's a while since I did any crazy quilting so that is what I am going to do next - I can see beady tassels on the four corners!
Good job on the biscornu, Lin. It’s kind of an interesting procedure how that is done, right? I like the idea of making an opening on the bottom as it’s always hard to sew up one of the biscornu sides. I’ll try that next time. Can’t wait to see your crazy quilt pincushion. Crazy quilting is another of my favorite things. I have a crazy quilt pincushion in my other home. Thanks for sharing your biscornu with us.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful pincushion!
ReplyDeleteVery useful advice Lin!
I’ve never made a biscornu but I’ve been curious how they were put together!
So I think this is another I’ll have to put on my list!
Hugs,
Barbara xx
Lovely biscornu. I've never made myself so I'm going over to take a look to see how it was made.
ReplyDeleteI love that we can use our left over patches for making pincushions. The Biscornu is such an interesting project....I was pleasantly surprised that it sews up easier than it looks. What a good idea to put tassels on the points. I love how you embellish your designs and make them look amazing.
ReplyDeleteThats a fun new pincushion..... I can see you could have alot of fun dressing one up...

That is beautiful and fascinating how it is done. I think I am going to have to give this a try.
ReplyDeleteOne of these days I'm going to try making this design - one of those things that I keep forgetting to do. Yours is so pretty - I love your fabric choices. Thank you for inviting us to visit with you.

ReplyDeleteThat's a wonderful pincushion and it looks like a great way to utilize small pieces of saved fabric! I love those scissors and thimble, both look like unique antiques.
